I’m back. Yeah I had some kind of hiccup in my language learning last month. As in, life got in the way massively. I had to cancel my participation in the polyglot gathering (I’m still bitter about that but hey c’est la vie), I moved flats and I’m about to move again. So, this month again I might not be able to get a lot of language learning done.
Nonetheless, let’s do a quick review of the past two months:
Have two conversations in German, Spanish and Portuguese:
Considering that I had an evening with my in laws, a visit at the tax advisor, and that I’m looking for a flat and speaking German through the whole process, I’ll consider this goal reached.
I took one lesson (so that’s a 50% success)
I also started watching Gran Hotel on netflix and I love it.
Nope. Failed again. Ines and I couldn’t manage to find a common time in our busy schedule. I think I will pause portuguese for now.
Finish reading L’invention de nos vie - Done! It’s a very good novel.
Keep the couple movie nights up - Yep. We watched the two movies OSS117 - they’re both hilarious, I totally recommend them.
Start reading business books again. - Done. I read The miracle morning (Hal Elrod) - about time, since my morning routine has been inspired by the book since last november - The Millionaire Fastlane (MJ deMarco), Get rich lucky bitch (Denise Duffield-Thomas) and almost finished reading the 48 laws of power (Robert Greene) . I also started reading Fluent forever (Gabriel Wyner).
On the recommendation of my friend Derek Sivers, I also followed the entire self-development program Personal Power II by Tony Robbins. I just loved it and I totally recommend it to anyone who wants to develop their potential. In fact I said so much good about it to my wife that she has decided to follow it also this month.
Routine & Productivity
Keep iterating on existing routine to make it more productive, and hopefully reach some of the goals I missed in April. - Done! Namely, among the goals I missed in April, I reached those:
Reach a point where I meditate everyday.- I’m proud to say that today is day 25 of my meditation routine, and although I know a habit takes 66 days to become automatic, I have never been so consistent in meditation before so there are great odds that this habit will stick, this time. And I already experience a more relaxed and focused mindset.
Master the Getting things done framework for productivity. - it’s still implemented and I wonder how I worked before it, so that’s a success!
Start consistently using the framework described in this video for setting new habits. - I’m doing it with the meditation habit. After the 66 days I plan on setting another habit, probably an exercise related habit.
My morning routine now looks like this:
- Drink a big glass of water (with lemon if I have some at hand)
- Meditate for 40 breath on my yoga mat
- Do my yoga routine
- Get dressed
- Go for a short (or not so short) walk before starting to work, typically around 7AM.
So, let’s set some new goals:
Language Goals - July 2017
In July my number 1 priority is to find a nicer flat where my wife and I can live for an undetermined period of time (possibly up to two years), so in terms of language goals, this translates as:
Perform all the tasks necessary to look for and find a flat. Namely: look up flats online, contact landlords and real estate agents via phone and email. Visit flats and receive explanations in German, and finally read and sign a rental contract.
Keep watching Gran Hotel. I’m addicted to it now so it won’t be too difficult.
I’ll pause it for now. Although if you can recommend a good serie I take it ^^
French. Keep up the couple movie nights
Finish the two books I started (48 laws of power + fluent forever) and maybe read some more.
Routine and productivity.
Keep the meditation habit throughout the month. That would lead me to day 53.
That’s it. Quite a short list this month. I’m looking forward to when life will be mopre stable and I can start being more systematic in my language learning again.
I wish you a good month of July.
